INOVA Women’s and Children’s Hospital
Fairfax, VA
Old Dominion Insulation provided mechanical and plumbing insulation services for this twelve-story, 665,000-square-foot hospital. The project began in September of 2012, and was completed ahead of schedule in August 2015 with zero injuries. The hospital remained open throughout the entire construction and installation process. Upon completion, the hospital has 192 patient rooms, 108 bed neonatal intensive care unit, 33 labor and delivery rooms, 8 operating rooms and 6 C-section rooms. Three of the twelve floors house the Children’s Hospital, which includes 116 pediatric care rooms. A full service clinic is located on the ground floor of the hospital, as well as a full service commercial food kitchen. The project also included the construction of a new central utility plant and central energy plant with a pair of 1800 ton chillers and cooling tower assembly.
Our specific work included 500,000-square-feet of duct insulation, 125,000-square-feet of piping insulation, 10,000-square-feet of stainless steel jacketing and over 50,000 man hours to finish the job.
Old Dominion Insulation contracted with Shapiro and Duncan to perform the work. Clark Construction was the construction manager.
Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center
Midlothian, VA
Old Dominion Insulation provided mechanical and plumbing insulation services for the seven-story, 245,000-square-foot acute care hospital and an attached 150,000-square-foot medical office building. The hospital has 158-bed hospital features a full range of medical and surgical services, 130 private patient rooms, 10 all-digital surgical suites, a complete line of women’s health services, 24-hour emergency care and all-digital radiology and diagnostics.
The first floor serves as the main entrance to the grand lobby from the piazza motor court. The second floor serves as the upper-level entrance to the grand lobby, and houses the surgery, endoscopy, cardiac catheterization center. The third floor includes the critical care and acute care units. Fourth and fifth floor services include acute care, with the fourth floor of the medical office building housing the physical rehabilitation unit.
Completed in 2005, the project finished on time with zero injuries. Built on a 46-acre campus, it is the first new hospital built in Chesterfield County in more than 20 years.
Stafford Hospital Center
Stafford, Virginia
Old Dominion Insulation provided mechanical and plumbing insulation services for a 266,200-square-foot addition, seven-story hospital and central utility plant on a 70-acre site. The project included 100 patient beds, operating rooms, an emergency department, a radiology department and a kitchen/dining area, as well as the future planned expansion and erection of several ancillary service buildings.
The project finished on time with zero injuries. Old Dominion Insulation contracted with ColonialWebb Contractors to perform the work. Whiting Turner was the general contractor.
Winchester Medical Center New Heart and Vascular Center
Winchester, VA
Old Dominion Insulation provided mechanical and plumbing insulation services for the 22,000-square-foot heart center with 49 pre- and post-treatment rooms arranged around a central clinical support area to promote efficiency and improved workflow. The existing non-invasive and invasive cardiology rooms were renovated to form one contiguous space during a second phase of construction. The project includes 31 catheterization holding suites, three nuclear stress rooms, a stress echo room, five echo rooms, four vascular suites and three procedure rooms, including a pediatric cardiology clinic.
The new Heart and Vascular Center is part of a three-year, $161 million campus expansion project at Winchester Medical Center. The expansion includes a parking deck, a second story addition to the hospital’s clinical lab, a larger emergency department, a five-story North Tower with new critical care units, observation beds, women and children’s services and shell space for future growth. The project is slated for LEED Gold certification.

Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center
Fredericksburg, VA
Old Dominion Insulation provided mechanical and plumbing insulation services for HCA’s 282,358-square-foot Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center. The facility is a general acute care hospital with 126-beds and all rooms are private and provide a wide range of in- and outpatient services, including 24-hour emergency care, obstetrics, diagnostic imaging, intensive care, cardiac catheterization and psychiatric care.
Completed in 2010, the project finished on time with zero injuries. Old Dominion Insulation contracted with ColonialWebb Contractors to perform the work. R.J. Griffin was the general contractor.
Augusta Health Hospital Addition
Fishersville, VA
Old Dominion Insulation provided mechanical and plumbing insulation services for the new, four-story Augusta Health Heart and Vascular Center. The four-story, 67,500-square-foot facility features cardiac rehabilitation, support services, a conference center, two catheterization labs, medical offices and space for future development. An additional 20,000 square feet of space was renovated.

Duke Cancer Center
Durham, NC
Old Dominion Insulation provided mechanical and plumbing insulation services for the seven-story, 267,000-square-foot facility with more than 100 exam rooms, 75 infusion rooms and 25 clinic rooms. Although the facility was designed to be LEED Silver certified, the project achieved Gold certification.
Completed in 2013, the project finished on time with zero injuries. Old Dominion Insulation contracted with Environmental Air Systems to perform the work. KBR was the general contractor.
Southeastern Health Park
Lumberton, NC
Old Dominion Insulation provided mechanical and plumbing insulation services for the three-story, 60,000-square-foot project. The facility features an ambulatory surgery center with four operating rooms and practices for orthopedic, GI, pain management and physical therapy.
Completed in 2014, the project finished on time with zero injuries. Old Dominion Insulation contracted with Smith’s Refrigeration to perform the work. R&M was the general contractor.
Hoke Health Pavillion
Raeford, NC
Old Dominion Insulation provided mechanical and plumbing insulation services for a three-story, 56,000-square-foot ambulatory services building; a three-story, 51,000-square-foot medical office building; and a 15,000-square-foot central energy plant. The project totaled 122,000 square feet and was completed in multiple phases.
