Virginia State Capital Renovations
Richmond, VA
Old Dominion Insulation provided mechanical and plumbing insulation services to the high-profile renovation of the state capitol. With an approved budget of $83 million, the project consisted of renovations to the existing capital as well as a 27,000 square-foot underground extension. The original capital building was built in 1788 and has since over gone renovations in 1904 and 1962. Working on a building that is over 200 years old presented many difficulties.
Completed in 2007, the project was completed on time with zero injuries. Old Dominion Insulation contracted with Atlantic Constructors to perform the work. Gilbane Building Company was the general contractor.
United States Federal Courthouse
Richmond, VA
Old Dominion Insulation provided mechanical and plumbing insulation services on the 300,000-square-foot courthouse. The building contains one level of underground parking with 64 spaces and nine new courtrooms to house district, magistrate and bankruptcy courts. Two atriums are the focal points of the north and south sides of the facility, creating a modern but neo-classically-themed building.
Completed in 2008, the project finished on time with zero injuries despite the challenging logistics of performing work in a tight, urban environment. Old Dominion Insulation contracted with Colonial Webb Contractors to perform the work. Tompkins Builders was the general contractor.
Aerospace Visitor Center and Office
Chantilly, VA
Old Dominion Insulation provided mechanical and plumbing insulation services on 180,000-square-foot visitor center. The initial phase of this master-planned, multi-phased project includes Class A office, a visitor center, data center and underground and surface parking areas.
Completed in 2014, the project finished on time with zero injuries. Old Dominion Insulation contracted with Bell Company to perform the work. James G. Davis was the general contractor.
Federal Office Building 8
Washington, DC
Old Dominion Insulation provided mechanical and plumbing insulation services on the renovations to the 545,000-square-foot federal office building. The overall project included partial demolition, base building construction and tenant fit-out.
The building was renovated into modern class A office building in accordance with GSA quality standards and requirements. The existing 1961 building was designed to house laboratories and offices for the Food and Drug Administration. It now accommodates approximately 2,000 Health and Human Services and House of Representatives committee staff members. The building is LEED Gold certified and utilizes natural daylighting, energy and water-efficient fixtures and low-VOC materials. The renovation features the addition of two atriums, glass curtain walls on each end of the building and projected window bays on the north and south facades.

United States Patent and Trademark Office Headquarters
Washington, DC
Old Dominion Insulation provided mechanical and plumbing insulation services on the 4,900,000-square-foot campus project featuring a 2,500,000-square-foot, five-building, 11-story complex, two smaller 77,000-square-foot residential buildings and parking garages.
The majority of the project is comprised of office space with the remainder consisting of joint use space; such as computer and scientific information facilities, auditorium and training space, two data centers, child care center, catering kitchen, cafeteria and general warehouse space.
Completed in 2004, Old Dominion Insulation contracted with J.J. Kirlin to perform the work. Turner was the general contractor.
